Martin T - drums, vocals

Martin started playing in 1964, using knitting needles on chairs while watching 'Ready Steady Go'. It was nearly 2 years before he sat behind a real drum kit.

Martin has played pop, heavy rock, jazz and done a lot of work playing for acts in clubland. His greatest thrill was when he met the great Buddy Rich and actually stood in his dressing room listening to a conversation between him and some other great British jazzers. Martin also recorded with 'Travis' - no not that one, the one with the late, great Graeme Travis, produced by the best ever British pop drummer, Bobby Elliott.

Readers will note the links with other members as you read. Martin was the drummer in the Strays after Steve left them (see below) - they later became 'Man Canon' renowned locally for their heavy rock style and were the first band in Yorkshire to have a light show. He was legendary for hammering 2 lengths of 3X2 into the stage to stop his double bass drum kit from moving as the set up at every gig. Many a Club Chairman worried about the holes left in the stage.

Steve - Guitar,Vocals

Steve made his first public appearance in 1946 - just - New Year's Eve to be exact. Born into a musical family (on his Mother's side), he has always liked any genre of music. Steve's biggest influence, as far as the guitar is concerned, was on first hearing the Shadows 'Apache' in 1960 and from that moment he was 'hooked'.

He lists his greatest inflences as Hank Marvin, Duane Eddy, Eric Clapton, Les Paul, Django Reinhardt, The Beatles, The 'Stones', The Hollies and the Beach Boys to name a few to be going on with. In the mid sixties, Steve was Lead Guitarist with the legendary 'Mo Pickles' in Mo and the Rockits, then with the Strays before doing a 'professional' touring stint with Showman Drummer 'Eric Delaney' in his cabaret band. While with this band, Steve worked with Morecambe and Wise in a show at Leicester. On the University circuit the Delaney band played with Manfred Mann at Leeds. before a tour of Germany and ended wth a full week at the NATO base in Naples.

After a tough couple of years following a leg operation Steve is fighting fit and back in the ScratchBand.

Mick - guitar, vocals

Mick was born in 1951 and grew up in Wakefield and later Ossett. He started playing Spanish guitar at school but remembers seeing the legendary Mo and the Rockets in Ossett during the mid 60's which made him want to 'go electric' and play in a band (see note about Steve Mounsey, above). First played with a band in 1967 called The Chosen Few and then later with The Trevels, a very popular clubland act through to 1975. More recently Mick has played with Brass Monkey on the local pub circuit before becoming a member of The ScratchBand when Steve Mounsey left.

Stuart - bass guitar, vocals

Stuart arrived in 1944 and grew up in Wakefield, he learned to play the guitar just after leaving school. Stuart was a founder member of The Victors, Wakefield's best known group in the early 60's and with them and various other local bands played support to famous names like Cleo Laine and Eddison Lighthouse. Stuart changed over to bass guitar after joining Mike and a few years later was the man who brought the Scratchband together.
